H2O - IMMERSION BETWEEN REAL AND VIRTUAL
dissemination: public event
The production of immersive experiences in art, film, media and other forms of consumption is one of the most conspicuous cultural imperatives of contemporary times, perhaps already at risk of inflation. Yet the idea of immersivity refers to a very precise and unexplored condition that consists of pushing oneself into the underwater, submarine, or at least liquid environments, which is fascinating but not entirely compatible with our physiology.
Combining multiple approaches 'Hydrophilia', a special event organized by AN-ICON research project in collaboration with Sguardi Altrove International Film Festival, will explore the affinities between immersivity and the aquatic element of f multiple perspectives.
The day will open with the projection of "Filmarine", a montage film by Barbara Grespi, Giancarlo Grossi and Anna Caterina Dalmasso, which will explore the representation of water in cinema and film history.
Secondly, the event will continue with a round table discussion entitled "Immersion between real and virtual", animated by Adriano D'Aloia (University of Bergamo), Andrea Pinotti (AN-ICON, University of Milan), Simone Regazzoni (IRPA Milan) and moderated by Barbara Grespi (AN-ICON, University of Milan).
Finally, a showcase of selected VR experiences will address the aquatic theme in a multifaceted way, touching on issues of marine biology, and cultural anthropology, up to the management of the contemporary climatic crisis. The programme invites the user to become permeable and ready to discover the aquatic environment as a reservoir of meditative, memorial and ultimately human experiences. In The Jellyfish by Mélodie Mousset and Eduardo Fouilloux, we are invited to dive into the ocean's depths to encounter mysterious luminous jellyfish and interact with them using voice. Once a Glacier is an autobiographical rewriting of author Jiabao Li's attempt to save the glacier that holds the memory of the indigenous Inupiaq tribe. Finally, in the exotic waters of Polynesia, we follow biologist Lorent Ballesta to observe the largest known group of sharks known to date and documented in VR by Manuel Lefèvre in 700 requins.
The workshop will end with a special screening of Siccità by Paolo Virzì in presence of the director at the University Auditorium.
The programme "H2O - Immersion between real and virtual" will continue with "Immersioni", a review of international films on the theme of water.
