Andrea Mariani, Eleonora Roaro
research: Seminar
The seminar stems from the first experimental outcome of the MISTI Global Seed Project "Sensing Dolce Vita", which sees the University of Udine (and in particular the Digital Storytelling Lab) and the MIT LIST Center collaborating on a reflection on AR, VR, XR applications for the enhancement of the environments of the past film experience and in general for civic media activism interventions in urban spaces. Before going into the merits of the project - with the presentation of the work in progress of the immersive experience that has as its theme the premiere of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in January 1939 at the Odeon Cinema in Udine - the seminar will explore the theoretical premises that guided the work. It will focus on mulsensoriality in historiographical approaches to film from two theoretical perspectives: the first linked to the framework of media ecology and in particular to the infrastructural approach to media; the second to the weight of the phenomenology of film in the re-conceptualisation of the cinematic device in the media-archaeological context. In the wake of these premises - where the body/environment relationship is redefined - a reflection on film as a complex media event is articulated, which is also provoking the most recent debate on heritage cinema.
The visual artist Eleonora Roaro, who collaborates with me in the development of the immersive environment of the Cinema Odeon, will also be present: with her, the research on the sources that allowed a reconstruction of the material characteristics of the environment will be illustrated.
